Post Licensing

8-hour real estate law and board regulations

This course will detail real estate law and board regulations for Virginia's licensees. It is approved for eight hours of required post-licensing credits.

Over eight hours, it will explore:
• Lead-based Paint
• Virginia Residential Landlord and Tenant Act
• Property Owners' Association Act
• Condominium Act
• Common Interest Community Law
• Megan's Law
• Servicemembers' Civil Relief Act
• Disclosures
• VREB disciplinary actions
• Building codes and smoke detectors

While licensees must complete the seat-time requirements in the full online course (6.64 hours) to receive post-licensing credits, the time spent on individual topics can vary.

 
6-hour Contract Writing

This course details contract writing, from the basics to the nuances that exist for real estate agents. It is approved for six hours required post-licensing credits. Topics include:

• Ownership principles
• Parties to a contract
• Validity of contracts
• Types of leases
• Contingencies
• Inspections

While licensees must complete the seat-time requirements in the full online course (4.98 hours) to receive post-licensing credits, the time spent on individual topics can vary.

 
3-hour Agency

This course has been developed to provide a consistent message to agents on Virginia agency law. It contains information on what constitutes an agency relationship, the various brokerage relationships, creating and terminating an agency, and disclosure. This course is approved for three hours of required post-licensing credits.

While licensees must complete the seat-time requirements in the full online course (2.49 hours) to receive post-licensing credits, the time spent on individual topics can vary.

 
3-hour risk management

This course details risk management in the real estate industry, focusing on:

• Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act
• Anti-Trust
• Environmental Laws
• Mold
• Chesapeake Bay Preservation Act

This course has been approved for three hours of required post-licensing credit. While licensees must complete the seat-time requirements in the full online course (2.49 hours) to receive post-licensing credits, the time spent on individual topics can vary.

 
3-hour Escrow Requirements

Trust accounting is part of every fiduciary relationship; essentially any agent – whether it is an attorney, title company or real estate professional -- acting on behalf of his or her principal has an obligation to protect the any funds being held for that principal. In Virginia, real estate licensees are obligated by statute to place funds into an escrow account. This course delves into those requirements. It has been approved for three hours of required post-licensing credits.

• Responsibilities of Licensees
• Record-Keeping
• Findings and Discipline

3-hour Ethics

This course introduces the latest research in business ethics and includes colorful images, charts, and graphs to help students master the concepts. Video role-plays and chapter-summaries are intended to keep students engaged. Additionally, this class satisfies the NAR quadrennial ethics requirement and is approved for three hours of required post-licensing credits.

2-hour Trends: Social Media
This course will look at social media – from its history to its uses – and how real estate licensees can utilize the medium to improve their businesses while remaining firmly within the letter of the law. It has been approved for two hours of required post-licensing credits.

2-hour Fair housing in virginia
The course explores the Virginia Fair Housing Law, Fair Housing Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, and the Civil Rights Act or 1866. It is approved for two hours of required post-licensing credits.
 

 

All active brokers and active experienced salespersons who renew their license after December 31, 2015, must complete a Board-approved LU CE course that includes Flood Instruction to renew their licenses.
